Sleeping at night has been very difficult; the creaky floor
board outside my door should be replaced.
Last night I got up out of bed to tell the maid to stop walking around
at night to find a strange figure, she had long dark hair that was tangled and ratted;
she was wearing a gown that could a pristine white if it wasn’t for the dirt
that hung to the skirt. She wasn’t wearing a maid’s outfit so I knew that she
wasn’t. I got frightened and ran back up stairs and hugged myself to sleep.
The next morning I heard people whispering, nobody would
tell me anything. The maids dare to hide secrets from me! I dragged one of the
kitchen maids aside and questioned her, I then found out that there is someone
living in the basement of the house and her name is Bertha. She is the wife of
Mr Rochester and he thought that if he could keep this dirty little secret, he
could still get away with marrying another woman. I always knew there was someone else living
here, the whispers in the night and the crashes caused by thin air. How could
Mr Rochester do this to Jane? Maybe this is why she ran away! Oh, how I wish
she could come home and be with us again.
